Very sad, my deepest sympathies to Annie and Freddie and the rest of the family at such a sudden loss.' A friend, but a rival I suppose in a way as well. 'We virtually went around the world together. He was very funny guy from the microphone. And I think that summed up John really, he was economical with his words but he punched them out and when he spoke it had great resonance.' I'm finding out now that he had been ill over the past year or so'.ĭescribing him he said: 'Before my first TV game back in 1974, he sent me a telegram - yes a telegram. To the millions of football fans who tuned in to listen to his instantly-recognisable voice on television or radio for over half a century, he was simply known as 'Motty' - beloved for his sheepskin coat and finding the perfect words to describe the beautiful game. One fan wrote: 'I never met him but feel like I've known him all my life. Generations of children imagined Motty using his star voice and famous one-liners to commentate on their own kickabouts on playing fields and in gardens across Britain. Others love David Beckham's last-gasp free-kick against Greece that saw England through to the World Cup in 2002 and him declare the captain 'virtually played Greece on his own'. ![]() Prince William led tributes to the broadcaster today, who died aged 77 Others tweeted his commentary of Ronnie Radford's famous long-range strike for non-league Hereford against top-flight Newcastle in 1972, his very first TV commentary, and the moment he described Gazza crying after a booking in the 1990 World Cup semi-final, saying 'Oh dear, oh dear me' as the tears flowed. From that moment his coat became a piece of football history - and his trademark for the next three decades. One popular clip is from December 1990 when he stood in a blizzard in his calf-length sheepskin on a frozen Adams Park in Wycombe. Social media is awash with tributes and people sharing their favourite Motty moments. He will be deeply missed by fans and the entirety of the football community.' Motty, as he was best known to millions, died 'peacefully in his sleep' aged 77 after 50 years as the voice of British football and a final 12 months secretly battling illness in retirement, his friend Martin Tyler has said. Apparently it also happens in single player.Fans today shared their favourite memories of John Motson - including his iconic commentaries and the moment his sheepskin coat became part of the fabric of the nation during a blizzard in 1990. Lots of people in my thread seemed to have the same problem, and it happens 100% of the time for me if I don't wait for my AP orbs to vanish from my AP bar. Unless this is some weird mechanic I'm not aware of? It's because I'd hit my oil slick spell, which would use 3 (out of say, 9) and then I'd hit the button for flare after the animation had finished (but before the orbs were removed from my AP bar, seems like there's a delay?) and then I'd have 0 AP and never cast a flare, essentially using 6 AP for nothing. For the longest time in the game I've been wondering why, for example, my flare seemed to take far more than 6 AP, or my oil slick spell would take more than 3. I play this game co-op with a friend, and it seems as though if I use a spell and don't wait for the AP orbs to finish "disappearing" from my bar and go to select the next spell, it'll use the AP for that spell without actually giving me the spell effect. ![]()
